BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Judge Clifton Newman sentenced disgraced lawyer Alex Murdauugh to 27 years in prison for his financial crimes Tuesday.

There is now a price tag for the damages, soaring to over $12 million, getting sorted out in the plea agreement. But in the day-long hearing, what finally spilled over was raw emotion and pent-up feelings from the pain Murdaugh's actions caused so many in the Lowcountry.

"She loved Buster and Paul as her own," Ginger Hardwin said. "She loved Maggie, and she trusted and loved you [Murdaugh] wholeheartedly."
